An Indian-Maharashtrian popular sweet dish
Its an Indian sweet bread

Ingredients for the Puran
1 1/4 cup - Split Bengal gram {Chana daal}
1 cup - Jaggery {Gur)
A pinch - Saffron {Kesar}
1 tsp - Cardamom {Elaichi} powder
A pinch - Nutmeg powder

Ingredients for the Poli (the outer covering)
1 cup - Whole wheat flour
1/2 cup - Flour {Maida}
A pinch - Salt
1/2 cup - Ghee

Method for the Puran
Wash the split bengal gram and soak it for 15 minutes, boil and cook for 5-6 whistles.
Drain it well and grind it coarsely in a mixer.
Cook the bengal gram and add the jaggery.
Next add the saffron, cardamom and the nutmeg powder.
Stir continuously on medium flame till dry.
Remove and cool.
Divide into 8 equal portions.

Method for the Poli
Mix the flour, salt and ghee and make a soft dough with the help of some water.
Cover with a damp cloth and keep for 1 hour.
Divide dough into 8 rounds.
Flatten each round on the palm of the hand.
Stuff one portion of the puran, fold and seal the edges.
Dust it with flour and roll it out.
Heat the griddle (tava) and cook both sides of the puran poli with the help of little ghee.
Serve hot.
